Fat Talk Free Week 2008

October 13-17, 2008

Delta Delta Delta and key partners are raising the nation’s consciousness about the dangers of "fat talk" and the impact it has on women’s self-esteem and confidence. This nationwide body activism event coincided with the official launch of Tri Delta’s body image education and eating disorders prevention program, Reflections.

The numbers from Fat Talk Free® Week 2008 were staggering!  Never in our wildest dreams could we have anticipated such widespread support for our inauguaral campaign.  As a result of last year’s efforts:

  • Won the highly coveted AED 2009 Research and Practice Award.  This was the first time this award was ever given by the Academy of Eating Disorders!
  • Media exposure to more than 6 million readers/viewers, including coverage in major newspapers, on TV broadcasts and online.
  • Over 90,000 people viewed our Fat Talk Free Week video “Friends Don’t Let Friends Fat Talk.”  In addition to the 30,000 folks who shared the video virally through our e-mail efforts, the video received another 60,000 views on YouTube.
  • More than 20,000 hits to the Reflections Web site, here at www.ReflectionsProgram.org.
